INWOOD, WV (Jan. 21, 2013) – The Library Corporation has successfully integrated the released set of OverDrive® API services into its public catalog. The functionality will be available to any existing or new TLC library using the LS2 PAC.

“Our libraries have told us that they must be able to search and view e-resources along with their physical collection in one public catalog interface,” said Dianne Coan, LS2 PAC Product Owner. “Most of our customers already use OverDrive services, and this integration will make it easier for their patrons to see their investment in these titles without having to look in a separate place or make a separate search.” The released functionality shows the user the OverDrive item status, as well as an indication of item popularity, by showing the current OverDrive holds queue within the catalog result list. OverDrive is expected to release a second set of APIs to provide more access to its service in 2013.

OverDrive is a leading full-service digital distributor of e-books, audiobooks, and other digital content. Founded in 1986, the Cleveland, Ohio-based company’s digital distribution services are utilized by more than 18,000 libraries, schools, and colleges worldwide.

The Library Corporation is a family-owned company founded in 1974. More than 4,400 libraries worldwide use TLC’s automation systems and software. For more information, contact Brian Brehm at bbrehm@TLCdelivers.com or 1.800.325.7759.

INWOOD, WV (Jan. 23, 2013) – With the addition of OverDrive API integration into its LS2 public catalog, TLC has completed the second phase of its e-resource strategy. Last year, TLC rolled out services to provide custom full MARC records in 48 hours for OverDrive and 3M titles, and now libraries using the TLC LS2 PAC will be able to complete checkouts and place holds using the recently released API services from OverDrive, 3MTM, and Baker &’ Taylor.

“As we adapt our library system interfaces to work best on tablets and mobile devices, providing a seamless experience for users to search and retrieve e-resources is critical for any library worried about meeting the future demands of their patrons,” said Gar Sydnor, TLC’s Vice President of Sales. “Now using one interface, the same interface, no matter what device, our libraries and their users can search simultaneously the whole collection, including magazine databases, e-books and audiobooks, RSS feeds, and, of course, books. Patrons don’t have to hunt for the library’s e-book collection and they don’t need to leave the interface they already know and use to start a new search.”

TLC’s eBiblioFile service is available for any library using any ILS. To find out more, go to eBiblioFile.com or e-mail ebibliofile_support@tlcdelivers.com.

INWOOD, W.Va. (Nov. 1, 2012) – After 19 years with the same library automation system, Canada’s Mountain View School Division was ready for an upgrade. They wanted a Web-based system that was powerful, dependable, and adaptable to the workflows they had established over two decades. “We also looked at longevity because we’ve seen a lot of systems come and go,” said Mountain View Library Director and Resource Center Coordinator Charlene Purdon.

When TLC’s Library•Solution® integrated library system was implemented in the nearby Winnipeg School Division, Purdon took notice. “If you could handle their division in terms of service, you could handle ours,” she said.

The Winnipeg School Division in southern Manitoba includes 77 schools and serves more than 32,000 students. The Dauphin, Manitoba-based Mountain View School Division is comprised of 16 schools and 3,300 students.

Purdon said she was impressed by TLC’s willingness to customize Library•Solution in ways that allow staff in Mountain View’s 17 libraries to continue working as they had become accustomed. “There are things we do that other companies weren’t willing to accommodate,” she said. For example, “We print our own barcodes, we print our own labels, and having TLC see that these things were important to us made a huge difference. They allow us to do things the way we do them, and I like that.”

Purdon said Library•Solution was up and running by the start of the new school year in September, less than six months after she signed the purchase order. “We went from one library system to another without any issues. I’ve never had user complaints. To me, that’s the sign of a good implementation.”

Purdon said she and her staff are impressed with the comprehensive cataloging and reports functionality of Library•Solution, and the division’s teachers and students are enjoying the improved search capabilities of the system’s OPACs – LS2 Kids in the elementary schools, LS2 PAC in the middle and high schools. And since the ILS is Web-based, she said it serves the small, outlying schools an hour away from Dauphin just as efficiently as the larger schools in the heart of the district.

“I’ve certainly found TLC very good to deal with, and I’m certainly a satisfied client,” Purdon said. “You get your money’s worth, and I think it’s a very good value.”

INWOOD, W.Va. (October 16, 2012) – After going live July 1, the eBiblioFile MARC records service for digital downloads surpassed 175 library system customers at the end of September. It represents one of the fastest-growing new library businesses in recent years, and eBiblioFile has established itself as the most streamlined and sophisticated version of an e-resource cataloging service on the market today.

Heather Powers, product owner, explains: “To register, our customers select eBiblioFile as their MARC vendor for e-resources. From there, they automatically begin receiving our custom MARC records. Unlike other services, we don’t require the library to do any additional work.”

As the first e-resource on-demand service, eBiblioFile has evolved to handle large back-orders seamlessly and painlessly.

“It’s a wonderful service; I couldn’t be happier,” says Ruth Ann Copley, the cataloging coordinator for the North Carolina Digital Library. “eBiblioFile’s much faster than our last service. Turnaround is so much faster on bib records.”

The advantages of eBiblioFile don’t end with convenience. For many libraries, eBiblioFile is also the most cost-effective option on the market. For consortiums, one record is provided that can then be distributed to member libraries. This streamlined measure is less work for the library and, in many cases, a major savings.

Scott Reinhart, e-resource coordinator for the Maryland eLibrary Consortium, says, “With eBiblioFile, we have the assurance that we are going to get all of our records within two days of ordering. We didn’t have that with our previous vendor. As a pilot consortium, we didn’t expect the process to be as painless as it was.”

Libraries that register for eBiblioFile are also signing up to receive a superior level of customer care.

As Reinhert says, “They are a pleasure to work with … straightforward and flexible. The fact that they actually care about the customer is readily apparent with every interaction.”

INWOOD, W.Va. (Sept. 27, 2012) – The Library Corporation is pleased to introduce Lists & Actions, a powerful new circulation feature to compliment the Web-based LS2 Staff interface for TLC’s Library•Solution® automation system.

The LS2 Staff interface is a touchscreen-optimized, tablet-friendly design that allows a librarian to leave his or her desk and perform circulation tasks anywhere in the library. The new Lists & Actions tab leverages this mobility to provide lists of items and associated transaction data wherever it’s needed using an array of filters associated with MARC record data and circulation statistics. Each selected filter opens a range of options to help narrow down the search. Librarians can view saved pick lists, create weeding lists on the fly, or limit collections from within the stacks, in the workroom, or anywhere in the library by any number of filters and variables.

Data from lists and saved searches can be exported to a spreadsheet, added to an existing list, or used to create new lists. Each filter has options available for further narrowing a search, and each column in the results table can be rearranged, resized, sorted, or deleted to customize a user’s list or saved search.

To learn more about the advantages delivered by Lists & Actions, LS2 Staff, and Library•Solution, e-mail Brian Brehm at bbrehm@TLCdelivers.com, or call 1.800.325.7759.

INWOOD, W.Va. (Sept. 13, 2012) – Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio host Markus Schwabe said on the Jan. 9 broadcast of his “Morning North” show that Sault Ste. Marie Public Library’s new Library•Solution automation system is “the most modern computer system in the north.” Mark Jones, head of corporate services for the library, agrees. “I don’t think there are any libraries in northern Ontario that have something comparable,” he said.

In January, Sault Ste. Marie Public Library went live with TLC’s Library•Solution ILS and several of its Web-based, touchscreen-enabled modules, providing the library system with social-networking capabilities that were not previously available to staff and borrowers. “It’s given us a much nicer PAC for our patrons,” Jones said of TLC’s LS2 PAC catalog.

Jones offered further praise for TLC’s implementation and customer support teams. “Whenever we have had a question, they have gotten back to us very quickly.”

Established in 1896, the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library serves a population of more than 80,000 along the St. Mary’s River in Ontario, Canada. Its three locations offer 202,000 items and circulate more than half a million titles each year.

The Library Corporation, a family-owned company founded in 1974, creates and distributes automation and cataloging software to library systems worldwide. For more information, e-mail Brian Brehm at bbrehm@TLCdelivers.com, or call 1.800.325.7759.

DENVER (March 7, 2012) – The Solano, Napa, and Partners Library Consortium (SNAP), headquartered in Fairfield, Calif., has upgraded to CARL•XTM, The Library Corporation’s next-generation library system designed for high-volume, customer-focused libraries. The consortium, which had used TLC’s CARL•Solution® ILS since 1992, introduced its new automation system to the public on Feb. 21.

Deputy Director Lynne Williams said, “Through the migration process, the TLC staff worked closely with our team and, as a result, we have experienced the smoothest and most trouble-free migration in our history. With CARL•X, we have moved into an era of expanded and personalized services for both our partner libraries and their customers.”

The library communities of Solano and Napa counties now have access to the complete suite of TLC’s next-generation LS2 products for CARL•X. LS2 PAC provides a graphical interface to the library collections that can be customized to feature a particular library’s or branch’s collections. LS2 Kids offers streamlined accesses for the consortium’s youngest library users through defined subject categories and series. LS2 Mobile gives iPhone and Android smart-phone users the ability to search the library catalog and check their account status from anywhere at any time. With this upgrade to CARL•X, SNAP’s academic partners also have access to the latest developments in the Academic Reserves module.

“We are thankful for the close partnership with Solano, Napa, and Partners Library Consortium staff. This partnership aided in the smooth migration and transition for their patrons and libraries,” said Paul Leppert, vice president and managing director of TLC Denver. “We continue to be pleased that our long-standing customers put their trust in us and we believe our CARL•X platform will serve them well into the future.”

The Solano, Napa, and Partners Library Consortium is a partnership of five public and two academic libraries located in Solano and Napa counties in northern California. The system offers its 257,000 patrons over 1.2 million items with an annual circulation of 2.9 million.

The Library Corporation is a family-owned, GSA-certified company founded in 1974 to create technology for libraries and school districts of all sizes.

INWOOD, W.Va. (Jan. 21, 2012) – The Library Corporation and OverDrive are pleased to announce an agreement that enables OverDrive customers to order high-quality TLC MARC records and cataloging services simultaneously with their digital OverDrive materials.

Using TLC’s streamlined BiblioFile OnDemand technology, MARC records for e-books, audiobooks, and music and video titles will be prepared and delivered directly to each OverDrive library ready to import in just a few days. Final testing is under way and is expected to go live very soon.

“The first step to integrating electronic materials in today’s library system is to make sure MARC records exist for those items in the library catalog,” said Heather Brockerman, TLC Product Owner. “Our service accomplishes this quickly and easily. Our test libraries have been especially pleased with the quality and fast turnaround of just a matter of days.”

INWOOD, W.Va. (Oct. 18, 2011) – More libraries are choosing The Library Corporation for their future library automation system.

In the first nine months of 2011, TLC added 34 library systems to its growing family of Library•Solution®customers. The power, flexibility, and diversity of TLC’s automation system is popular with libraries such as Alamogordo Public Library in New Mexico, The King’s College in New York, and Mountain View School Division in Manitoba, Canada.

Library•Solution also continues to support a number of consortia utilizing a shared automation system. For example, the latest phase of the North Iowa Libraries BEACON project added 14 public, school, and academic libraries, bringing the total to 82 libraries for this fast-growing consortium. Among the libraries added in the most recent implementations are Emmetsburg Public Library & Iowa Lakes Community College, Manson Northwest Webster Elementary School and Manson Northwest Webster Junior/Senior High School, and Ventura Public Library.

“We appreciate that these outstanding libraries recognize the value of TLC’s newly developed, Web-based automation solutions,” said Senior Vice President Gar Sydnor. “Libraries will need to transition to more and more Web applications and touchscreen-enabled interfaces, and TLC will continue to meet their evolving needs for many years to come.”
