We are pleased to present the 28th annual Computers in Libraries—the most comprehensive North American conference and exhibition on all aspects of library and information delivery technology. Although the tools and technology available to libraries and information services have changed over the years, the excellent quality and range of both topics and speakers at Computers in Libraries 2013 remain the same.

With small steps and big leaps libraries and information organizations are evolving in new and exciting ways. Press Release: TLC successfully implements OverDrive Status and Availability service into LS2 PAC

INWOOD, WV (Jan. 21, 2013) – The Library Corporation has successfully integrated the released set of OverDrive® API services into its public catalog. The functionality will be available to any existing or new TLC library using the LS2 PAC.

“Our libraries have told us that they must be able to search and view e-resources along with their physical collection in one public catalog interface,” said Dianne Coan, LS2 PAC Product Owner. “Most of our customers already use OverDrive services, and this integration will make it easier for their patrons to see their investment in these titles without having to look in a separate place or make a separate search.” The released functionality shows the user the OverDrive item status, as well as an indication of item popularity, by showing the current OverDrive holds queue within the catalog result list. OverDrive is expected to release a second set of APIs to provide more access to its service in 2013.

OverDrive is a leading full-service digital distributor of e-books, audiobooks, and other digital content. Founded in 1986, the Cleveland, Ohio-based company’s digital distribution services are utilized by more than 18,000 libraries, schools, and colleges worldwide.

Press Release: TLC completes second phase of its e-resource strategy

INWOOD, WV (Jan. 23, 2013) – With the addition of OverDrive API integration into its LS2 public catalog, TLC has completed the second phase of its e-resource strategy. Last year, TLC rolled out services to provide custom full MARC records in 48 hours for OverDrive and 3M titles, and now libraries using the TLC LS2 PAC will be able to complete checkouts and place holds using the recently released API services from OverDrive, 3MTM, and Baker &’ Taylor.

“As we adapt our library system interfaces to work best on tablets and mobile devices, providing a seamless experience for users to search and retrieve e-resources is critical for any library worried about meeting the future demands of their patrons,” said Gar Sydnor, TLC’s Vice President of Sales. “Now using one interface, the same interface, no matter what device, our libraries and their users can search simultaneously the whole collection, including magazine databases, e-books and audiobooks, RSS feeds, and, of course, books. Patrons don’t have to hunt for the library’s e-book collection and they don’t need to leave the interface they already know and use to start a new search.”

About Super Conference
The Ontario Library Association is Canada’s largest library organization and OLA’s Super Conference is Canada’s largest continuing education event in librarianship. Within the Super Conference event is the country’s largest library tradeshow. The program is a tribute to the ability of OLA members to balance the cutting edge and the practical in a way that can satisfy an increasingly diverse number of member interests and needs.

While this is a very big event, it is also a very good event with exceptionally high scores in delegate evaluations. With each passing year, OLA members surpass themselves in the breadth and excellence of what they produce in this program. They succeed because, more and more, they are willing to take risks, to raise their sights in identifying what is needed, what is possible and what will move themselves and their peers forward.

Press Release: SNAP Goes Live with CARL.X

DENVER (March 7, 2012) – The Solano, Napa, and Partners Library Consortium (SNAP), headquartered in Fairfield, Calif., has upgraded to CARL•XTM, The Library Corporation’s next-generation library system designed for high-volume, customer-focused libraries. The consortium, which had used TLC’s CARL•Solution® ILS since 1992, introduced its new automation system to the public on Feb. 21.

Deputy Director Lynne Williams said, “Through the migration process, the TLC staff worked closely with our team and, as a result, we have experienced the smoothest and most trouble-free migration in our history. With CARL•X, we have moved into an era of expanded and personalized services for both our partner libraries and their customers.”

The library communities of Solano and Napa counties now have access to the complete suite of TLC’s next-generation LS2 products for CARL•X. LS2 PAC provides a graphical interface to the library collections that can be customized to feature a particular library’s or branch’s collections. LS2 Kids offers streamlined accesses for the consortium’s youngest library users through defined subject categories and series. LS2 Mobile gives iPhone and Android smart-phone users the ability to search the library catalog and check their account status from anywhere at any time. With this upgrade to CARL•X, SNAP’s academic partners also have access to the latest developments in the Academic Reserves module.
